NZ Biomed CEO, Murray Cooper, has been a dedicated professional in the medical market since 1982. Throughout his career, he has witnessed the significant wastage and disposal of tonnes of medical equipment. In New Zealand alone, it is estimated that over 1,700 tonnes of reusable medical waste end up in landfills each year, including items that have never been used. This results in a financial impact of tens of millions of dollars, significantly affecting hospitals and society.
In the early 1990s, Murray founded Cooper Medical, which he sold in 2006 and reacquired in 2019. The distribution of unrequired and refurbished medical equipment has always been a core activity of Cooper Medical, alongside the importation and distribution of new medical equipment.
Recognising the substantial volume of unrequired medical equipment and the need to address the issue transparently and sustainably, setting up a separate company, NZ Biomed, to focus on resolving this issue has been a long-standing passion. The time to act is now!
